Unboxing my new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Gulf Edition. Sorry about the gloves, I had intended to handle the watch a bit more than I did and was hoping they would prevent finger prints. Sadly I didn't have a proper pair of gloves and the ones I had made opening the case a nightmare! Doh!

Before I bought this watch I looked for vids of it on Youtube and couldn't find any so I made my own video for future buyers.

I always wanted the Monaco because of the association with Steve McQueen and the film "Le Mans" but a friend of mine bought a replica and when I tried it on it was too big and looked ridiculous on my wrist. I was therefore excited when I saw that Tag Heuer had released a Gulf Edition of their entry level watch. My bank manager was relieved too...

With regards to the plastic case that I struggled to open; I am a bit disappointed at how cheap it felt. Granted this is the entry level Tag watch but don't forget it is after all just a basic Quartz watch and in my opinion it is very expensive for what is basically a $10 Casio in a fancy shell. I would therefore have expected something a little more plush.

  • I purchased this watch recently and I like it. Of course I would have prefer to have the Monaco but my bank manager wouldn't allow. I had the same experience as you did with opening the box. I see that formula one watches can be found online for less than 1K, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have the Gulf Edition. I paid $1,200 for this watch. I didn't see this watch on the U.S. Tag Heuer website. Is this sold abroad only?

  • As far as I knew they are sold in all the major territories although I can't say I checked? I saw cheaper deals online - some were companies importing from other EU states and selling them unofficially here at a discount, others were on ebay that people had purchased from official dealers using Tesco Supermarket points! I also have friends that regularly travel to the US on business and they offered to get me a discount via duty free at Heathrow. In the end I went direct to an official dealer.
