Magda Tagliaferro was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1893 and died in 1986; was a french-brazillian great pianist. She still playing until her last year of life, 93 y old. She studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and her master was Alfred Cortot. She was one of the most important Cortot´s pupils and her close friend. She was a friend of Hahn, Fauré, Thibaud, Casals, Villa-Lobos, Georges Migot, etc. She played with Stokovsky, Eugène Ormandy, Jean Martinon, Paul Paray, Charles Munch, Felix Weingarten etc. She said once that Fauré teached her how to play his nocturnes and loved her interpretation. She created one of the most schools of piano in Brazil. Wonderful. She was also a professor in Paris Conservatoire.

  • This is indeed a fine performance, having line, repose, textural clarity, and a sure sense of stucture. Thankyou for drawing my attention to it. (When was the recording made? - it doesn't sound that old.)

  • She recorded Fauré works when was young, but this recordin was around 1973 or 1976...she was more then 80 y old. Magda Tagliaferro played until 93 y old and with verve, excellent techinique, she had a strong personality and I saw her once, It was a magical experience. You can see her in a video playing Saint-Saëns concerto 5, she was more then 70 and had a enourmous powerful. She was a very beautiful woman.

  • I have read that Tagliaferro also studied with Marmontel fils. Is this correct?

  • Yes, it´s true. But she used to say that Cortot was his ¨master until nowadays¨, until her last year of life. And, curious, Cortot falled in lovve with her. ;)

  • The triplets at the beginning of the piece are out of time

  • Wonderful performance, in my opinion more expressive than Marguerite Long. Gerard Parmentier version is also extraordinary, perhaps slower than usual but full of depth and sensitivity.

  • a vc q pois o videos Parabens !!!!!!!

  • I adored her rendition of this nocturne. I think it is one of the most subtle. I do not care about ideologies except if they are represented in the artistic process. Should we have a New Nurenberg trials for the artists who accepted Soviet regime or Bush´s government?

  • Wonderful, in every way, an ideal for this music and this artist, in finding a balance of all the elements of this most elusive composer. I was so lucky to hear Magda aged 90+ in London, playing a varied program, with Faure nocturnes & impromptus....inoubliable.
