Linda Hendrickson gives a tour of the 10 rain barrels that she and her husband installed around their home. She also shows how she collects graywater and how she uses it to flush the toilet.

In 2009, Linda took the Master Gardener training in Portland, Oregon. Students were encouraged to put together a five-minute presentation on any subject related to gardening for the final day of class. Linda is especially interested in water issues. Her husband, John Brockway, shot and edited this video for her presentation.

  • I thought I saw a bundle of cut willow in your yard Do you make baskets from them?

  • I had rainbarrels to catch the water, but they froze and bulged the bottoms which made them tip over and roll down the hill! Needless to say, I have to rethink that system! Our sink water goes into a buried rainbarrel filled with sand and rocks where it drains away.

  • i make also this!

  • great video, v.clear

  • good idea on the barrels i can get some of those plastic ones for free from work. i like the idea how you can just tip the grey water down the dunny. our dunnies have a cistern or tank up the top. and water is stored in that.
