The Iraqi Army built a base in the outdoor space where 7,000 Sadr City residents pray every Friday. This Friday, they posted snipers on rooftops and checkpoints around the mosque. The Jeish al Mehdi tried to keep worshipers from confronting the soldiers. David Enders, a Pulitzer Center grantee, reports.
This report is part of Pulitzer Center-sponsored project "Iraq: Death of a Nation? (revisited)" (http://bit.ly/swJtcg).

@6GodSmack9 the whole middle east is fucked up and do u really think that if US troops stayed there that it would make the situation better?!
Get out of the box man if US don't get all their troops home soon the deathrate will look just as it looke'd back in the Vietnam war.
And also that would just make the situation worse because it would just create more hatred against America and right now like in Afghanistan the situation is really bad!And they can't win the war!

all I care about is the unity of Iraq and nothing else
even if it has to become a religious Shiite state like Iran I would still accept this
the only thing we should never accept is what some political powers in Iraq are trying to do today (division of Iraq)

but maybe the next elections will give power to nationalists (who care about the unity of Iraq & not just stupid projects like 'Federalism' and a 'Super Shiite Region') support this disastrous plan, we must stop this at any cost. I have absolotuely no problem with nationlaist religious parties like the Sadrists, I just hate the hypocrites who are working against Iraq (like the Kurds and their ally al Hakim who want to steal Kirkuk)

my problem is not that Islam plays a part, the problem is that it's a negative role today because the power is being shared in such a way that each group works not for the good of the country but for just their own group, Especially the Kurds who want nothing but to separate from the rest of Iraq & take as much land from Iraq as possible,

I don't even mind if the government are religious or not, I don't care, I could even accept a religious government even if it's a Mullah regime like Iran! That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying that the way it's structured is not about religion, it's about sect. and ethnicity if it was a real religious government then at least it would be united on one thing (Islam) now it's like a circus and Iraq may soon loose KIRKUK to the separatist Kurds because of this, Kirkuk is the heart of Iraq

"Iraq is the biggest shithole on the planet today"
being pessimistic wont do anything. I already stated that I as most iraqis dont want a religious rule in iraq, all Im saying is that religion should be respected. whether you misunderstood me or just dont like what im saying, thats your bussiness.

you talk about how good the sectarian & religious government is and yet you live here, typical. Enjoy your life in Canada, while the people who are actually living in today's Iraq die and loose their country (like the Iraqis living in Kirkuk who will soon be forced to join ''Kurdistan'') and enjoy Karbala and your religious posters, Lol. It doesn't matter who's the majority, what matters is what works and what doesn't, and today the whole world can see that your system in Iraq is a big failure.

you and others like you will never learn to respect other people's views, you just basically said that because religious people are in the majority, they have the right to stomp on other people's liberties. Anyway, Iraq is the biggest shithole on the planet today, so have fun at Karbala, and by the way, if Iraq was so great today and this crappy sectarian government was so good then you wouldn't be living in Canada today- a secular country.
