  • Hi thanks for these great videos!

Can you tell me what material the 'stiffner' is made from and what material the 'toe puff is made from'. Am I right in thinking that I could use buckram for both?

    Thanks

    Nadine

  • @enidan247 The stiffener is made of veg tanned leather and the toe puff is either veg tanned leather or a synthetic fabric with heat activated glue on one side. Or you can use Celastic which is a synthetic material that is softened with solvent. I don't think buckram is suitable.

  • I meant forepart lining, not toe puff. How wet are the lining and puff during this phase?

    cheers

  • @TheRooster602 The lining is dry but the toe puff is moist if it is leather, and put in with wet paste. If it is synthetic then it has a glue that is pre heated and sets immediately.

If the leather is set up properly you don't need to have pleats anywhere other than at the toe and seat. If you have pleats at the joint then you have to cut off the tops, or leave lumps at a point that gets all the flexing.

  • Hi Tim

I lasted my first pair this weekend. Your videos were paramount to my success. It was very easy though it did take practice. Couldn't have done it without your help. Thanks.

  • @jasmine547 , Thanks for the feedback and congratulations. Lasting is such a crucial operation, doing it succesfully first time is a real bonus.

  • i love watching your videos; they are fab.

i make my own shoes by hand (female!) and its so much fun, i can have matching handbags

  • "When pleating the toe puff, it's better to put the pleats at the toe than further down the last..." Why is that?

Tim, these are great videos. I am learning a lot! Thanks!

I am just a hobbyist, not looking to do this for a living, but you demystify this and explain it clearly enough to make even me think I could do it myself.

  • @martydrooo

Thanks for the comments, glad you like it.

  • Tim you have such a soothing voice, haha. I usually tend to skip around parts of videos (some steps are redundant to me at this point) but I sat here mesmerized!
