ok im aware the old people were the couple...but in the ending..(in the story)....they lived happily ever after and kissed and thats all we know from then on in the story...the thing i dont get is this.......What caused them to be seperated over that period of time until they got old? they never explained that??? or did i miss something?
They weren't separated. Ally had altzheimer's disease or something similar. They'd lived together in the house but she developed the disease and every day woke up not knowing who he was.
He knew who she was, and read the book of their story to her to try and make her remember.
That's part of the beauty of it. How, even when she only just realizes who he is, she still loves him.
