August 2 is when America is expected to hit its spending limit, but lawmakers haven't been able to come to a compromise on the budget yet. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says progress is being made, but the Center for Economic & Policy Research's Dean Baker says this is just more political theater. Baker says progress will have to be made eventually, but doesn't rule out there being no deal by the August deadline and the US being stuck with no money in the bank. Baker says lawmakers will probably look toward defense spending to make cuts, but doesn't think that will fix the whole problem.
