I read or heard an interview of Bowie saying he was nervous when approaching the stage because he thought he might possibly screw up the lyrics,... obviously everything turned out fine but Bowie was a fan of Syd way back when and it was completely appropriate for D.G. to have D.B. sing this song.... Bowie really makes it come alive again.

He was very inspired by Barret, but I think you remember this wrongly. In fact, I don't think he ever met Barret in person. I may be wrong though.
