As a direct result of four teens dying in a high speed crash Memorial Day weekend, the NC State Highway Patrol is increasing manpower by nine officers to crack down on speeding as well as other driving offenses in Davidson Country through the month of July.

Officers are trying to cut down the number of driving fatalities in the county by targeting speeders, drunk drivers, aggressive drivers and seat belt violators.

Stepped up patrols will be on major highways and rural paved roads in the county.

There have been 121 fatal collisions resulting in 133 fatalities in Davidson County since January of 2002.

So far this year, there have been 18 traffic fatalities. That's up 63.6% since this time last year.

Members of the dead teens' families spoke at a press conference to announce the increase in law enforcement.

Story from Memorial Day weekend 2007

Four teens died Saturday May 26 2007, in Davidson County, North Carolina, just one county over from Winston-Salem.

The four teens, all underage, died in the horrific wreck when the car they were riding in crashed into a tree around 2 am. The car and the dead teenagers were not discovered until 9 am. It is believed that they were wearing seatbelts, but three of the victims were thrown from the vehicle.

Law enforcement says an "extremely high rate of speed" was a factor and alcohol was found inside the car at the scene. Investigators are working with the victims' friends and family to determine where the boys got the alcohol.

Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol played a factor in the accident.

Killed in the crash-

-Jacob Mayo, 19, Winston-Salem (driver)

-Chad Calvert, 18, Thomasville

-Zachary Main, 18, Kernersville

-Robert King, 20, Trinity

While it is yet to be determined how and if alcohol played a role in the accident and deaths of the four teens from Davidson Couty, Casey Bokhoven was definitely a victim of a drunk driver.

Casey died March 11, 2007. While standing on a sidewalk in Winston-Salem, NC, he was hit and killed by news anchor Tolly Carr.

  • If you are one of many ppl who can't get enough traffic to their site,You can't do it alone, add an affiliate system and let others promote your site,The GAS aff system is the answer,Because the setup requires not code knowledge at all,Get it here GAS-AFFILIATEdotCOM and make get that traffic you want.

  • Just another reason I laugh EVERYTIME i hear that a cop has been killed. Thanks for the poor police work.

  • Hopefully you get hit by a passing car.

  • are you sure

  • i still like to bang your mom too

  • im sure thatll happen eventually

    some day

  • I hope your mothers pussy lips fall off you fucking fagot

  • I hope one day you get run over by a drunk driver.

  • No, you just have this belief that 'speeding kills'. Speeding alone does not kill, high speed plus dumb driving kills. people who drive unreasonably fast almost always do other stupid citable things.

  • Truthfully, I just love fucking people's car insurance up and like to make people pay heavy fines. Some times I pull behind parked cars, and as soon as the person gets in teh car I walk up to the window and write them a speeding ticket for 95MPH in a 35MPH zone. How's that for "random"???
