This is the first part I've programed my Taig mill to produce as a CNC gang tool lathe. The whole setup requires no modification to the mill itself so I now have the capabilities to switch between a CNC mill and CNC lathe with minimal setup time (2 minutes or so). All of the tooling is mounted to a baseplate and is modular to allow for different tools to be mounted in repeatable locations. The mill is using Supercam as a control with 180oz stepper motors, hence the slow rapid speed :o( but hey it's a step in the right direction! Let me know what you think :o)

Oh yea I didn't even realize I had a little buddy tagging along on the mill table, you'll spot him towards the end...

  • How about actually showing us the use of the gang tooling in action.

  • You know I really ought too haha. The machine is far more impressive in the state that I have it in now than it was way back when I made the video. I'm not sure when I'll get around to it, but I'd like too. The previous motors and drivers were absolutely horrid. My new setup allows me to accurately position at 120IPM, so less than 1 second per tool change, and I've found a way to make the Z axis more rigid.

  • Looks fine. but it seems a pity for the insect which nearly drowns in cooling water on the table... ;)

  • Very nice video. I've recently done something similar to this on my Sieg SX3 mill with CNCFusion conversion. I did my tool block across the table (tools are selected in the Y direction), but this video has made me think I might get more flexibility if I had a tool block along the table. Thanks for sparking some new ideas.

  • nice job.

  • Looks great! Quite a nice gang setup! Keep the video's coming
