In the Rice University's Youth Impact Program, middle school students find out what it takes to be a successful football player and a successful student during a month-long camp at Rice. The 10- to 13-year-old boys spend four hours a day in Rice classrooms reading novels, like Crash and learning about finances and math using. Then they spend the afternoon practicing a different kind of knowledge on the football field. The Youth Impact Program was founded in 2006 by Riki Ellison, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers and a Rose Bowl champion with USC.
