@evarlam efharisto for mentioning to treno,i just listen to the song.me sinkinise ti oreo tragoudi one which any greek musician would be proud of in there repertorio,elafra or not.

At this point I want to make clear that of course Vicky thankfully didn't fall to that level of kitsch. She performed brilliantly songs by Theodorakis and Hadjidakis (her performance of "to traino" is breathtaking!!!) but had unfortunate moments, such as "Die Bouzouki klang durch die Sommernacht" which as "Itan mia bradya" is just bearable....where there's no bouzouki sound anywhere (except some guitar pretending the bouzouki sound). Thankfully she stayed loyal to the German schlager tradition.

Jimmy Makulis as I know was the first greek contester at the Eurovision song contest back in the 50s for Austria. Anyway his genre of music in greek we call it "elafro tragoudi" (light song). This is a genre of greek music with european roots, moslty french and italian. It was a very popular genre for mid-class urban people until 1970. Today is considered as nostalgia for the middle aged people.

@evarlam the same cannot be said about jimmy makulis who spent a number of years in germany.he had a great voice,and could adapt to most stiles.

@lympia3 I agree with you. the people are joking with greek music...after 50yrs away from the motherland, the connections with it are getting very loose and the whole thing turns into bad taste ("kitsch") folklore for tourists..I'm afraid that the same thoughts apply for Vicky as well in our days.
