Demonstration of phlebotomy with a straight needle performed on a live patient. These videos were created for educational purposes. While I have performed phlebotomy many times in clinical practice, I do not claim to be an expert on all medical or surgical matters, including the various procedures that are performed in these videos.

OK palpate first,if you have to put on the tourniquet then palpate, but not longer then 1 minute. take off the tourniquet then use the alcohol swab, apply the tourniquet pop the vein and take the tourniquet off pull the vacutainer tube out then the needle, oh and don't pull out too far as you will get a blood spot like you did. but other then that you did a pretty good job

Tourniquet location is suppose to be 3" - 4" from anticubital area.

DO YOU KNOW OF ANY GOOD VEINS?? Are you kidding me? Why are you asking the donor this? Usually asked is, "Do you have a preference?"

After assembling supplies you would put tourniquet on locate vein without gloves first, once vein is located then release tourniquet ( do not leave on longer than 1 minute). then put gloves on clean site (at this time open alcohol wipe) and perform the venipuncture. DO NOT fan site (contamination), your position was extremely awkward, using the basilic vein is last resort in the anticubital area because the artery and nerve run very close to that area. Using for training (Do's & Don'ts)

Wrong wrong!! Your tourniquet so way to close to the puncture site! The angle you are to the needle you can tell is so awkward and could be very dangerous to the patient

You pull the sleeves up or make the person take off their shirt, and then you apply the tourniquet.

Coban can cut off circulation so it is ideal for people that don't clot well. It can also cause nerve damage because it tightens with movement. Used it alot working for ARC where we used 16 gauge needles!
