@FullmetalX4 In a way, but that one is really something else. Compared to Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and the Ghibli films, it really isn't that much. It was a splendid apocalyptic film, but I just hope Mr. Anno doesn't plan to do that again for the Rebuild film series...

For those of you who don't know, AKIRA was animated 24 frames per second. The cels were all hand painted and some of the heavily detailed backgrounds were obscured by layers of buildings. I can't just look at this scene as "an amazing animation" anymore, the effort put into these three minutes alone was phenomenal!! Love this movie or hate it, Otomo + crew are animation GODS.

@Schmotion I'm pretty sure most of animation in Akira is 12 fps, like in standard hand drawed cartoon. But some elements through movie are in 24 fps and look stunning, like that big round criogenic chamber pulled from the ground by Tetsuo. Watch some Disney classic and you'll see same quality.
