This short film from ConFor shows how forestry and the wood-using industry is making a positive contribution to the UK's carbon commitments, helping the rural economy and bring environmental and social benefits to the countryside.
The sector is doing this through the sustainable production of wood to help contribute climate change through a viable business model that supports continued investment in the UK's forests.
beng0077 Using wood instead of other building materials saves on average 0.9 tonnes of carbon dioxide per cubic metre - Source: Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management Report 196, Carbon benefits of Timber in Construction, 2006
UK countryside agencies produced a report in 2005 that identified lack of management as damaging key forest related flora and fauna - of course that management needs to be responsible, active management!

How much carbon is used in the production processing and distribution of wood and wood products and has a calculation been made to offset this against benefits?
Also there was a point made about Biodiverslty and how it benefits from forests being 'managed'. How is this squared? as it is not addressed in the video. We know that managed non diverse forest + climate change = problems with disease so perhaps only managed diversity+climate change=sustainability+climate proofing?
