After a brief team talk with coach Manuel Pellegrini, Drenthe, Pepe, Marcelo, Higuain, Van Nistelrooy, Diarra, Sergio Ramos and Gago worked out in the gym while the rest of the squad trained on the pitch during Wednesdays first session.

It was a day of hellos and goodbyes as Real Madrid welcomed Xabi Alonso and bid farewell to Michel Salgado. The defender did not participate in either of the two sessions on Wednesday, while the new midfielder participated in the afternoon workout alongside his new teammates.

Earlier this morning, Drenthe, Pepe, Marcelo, Higuain, Van Nistelrooy, Diarra, Sergio Ramos and Gago stayed indoors to workout in the gym. In the afternoon session, Ramos, Marcelo and Gago were joined by Sneijder in the weight room. Diarra and Van Nistelrooy meanwhile jogged in solitary.

Xabi Alonso joined his new teammates on the pitch and received a round of applause as he set foot on the turf. It was a light session for the midfielder, who jogged with the group prior to stretching with fitness expert, Santiago Lozano.

The bulk of the squad jogged and stretched under the orders of Jose Cabello before moving on to coordination and mobility drills, a game of keep-away and foot-volley.
