Tizway, returning to the scene of his most recent triumph, turned in a dazzling performance in the 118th edition Grade 1, $500,000 Metropolitan Handicap, the Memorial Day feature at Belmont Park.

Seeking his first win since a five-length score in the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap in October, Tizway broke alertly from the outside in the field of 11, pressed Tackleberry in second through fractions of 23.17 and 45.57, dispatched that rival nearing the five-sixteenths marker, and shook away from the field once put to a drive by Rajiv Maragh to find the finish line 2 ¾ lengths to the good of 36-1 longshot Rodman.

Tizway's final time of 1:32.90 was the second-fastest Met Mile in history, missing Honour and Glory's stakes record by 0.09 seconds. The Belmont main-track record for one mile is 1:32.24, set by Najran in 2003.

  • @JerryG918 - He just missed the world record held by Dr.fager, and Najran. They set the record at 1:32.24, and Tiz did it in 1:32.90. Fast as Hell!. Great run from a classy horse. Looks like he might be BC bound.

  • A magnificent mile for Tizway... Pressing the pace from the wide side and winning with lengths to spare in near stakes and track record time... looking forward to rest of his campaign this year for sure!

  • Tizway from the female family(grandmother) of Will's Way, the son of Easy Goer who won the Whitney and Travers!

  • Impressive run from Tizway - consitently fires a solid effort and today may have been his best effort of his career. Had the perfect set up for his style; that aside, 32 and 4 for the mile is blazing. Conversely, I think we may have seen Haynesfield's best days gone by. He had a taxing campaign last year, and while he didn't run terribly today, I don't think he will be competitive in G1 company anytime soon.
