This video is an introduction to the tuna fishing practices of the
villages on Mabul island, Semporna, Sabah. Semporna is part of the
Sulu-Sulawsi Marine Ecoregion and the Coral Triangle. WWF-Malaysia is
working with the fishermen, the local government and responsible tuna
fishers to improve the fishery and to pursue a fully sustainable
fishery.

  • More fishing and less yapping by the environmentalists

  • We use to go to sipadan from tawau using high speedboats just to fish the yellow fins using the same method that the locals used. That was 15 years ago and you can easily catch yellow fin of the 50 kg size.

But to catch a yellowfin of that size with hand line is no easy task.We take our hats to those fishermen from mabul for bringing in 80kg yellowfin by handline in a matter of 30 mins.
