This is a very beautiful and emotional etude Lang Lang played at the Nobel Prize ceremony for President Obama. Chopin wrote this piece out of love of his native country of Poland. After listening to his student play this piece, Chopin cried, "Oh, my homeland!"."Tristesse" means "sadness" in French. I am 11 years old in this recording.

  • Please don't become like Lang Lang and overdo the emotion when you play (physically, not in your playing). You're an amazing young pianist (better than I'll ever be) and I would hate to see you become criticized for following in Lang Lang's footsteps and displaying (in my opinion) excessive, unnecessary emotion when you play. Other than that, simply amazing.

  • @igotem38 This Lang Lang sounds mad, I'm gonna check him out now...

  • Who cares if Lang Lang played it? Loads of pianists have played it--why mention him? What's important is that you're playing it...and playing it well.

  • Great performance!! but before its too late.. DON'T MOVE LIKE LANG LANG!

  • Awesome.

  • @DICACIO1 my sentiments exactly!

  • *you're* alive....i ran out of characters :D

  • @MDkid1 Exactly! suppose if Chopin physically played this masterpiece over zealously and/or with "so-called" emphatic emotion, whereas grumpy critics would snarl at it and lose the point entirely....would anyone that loves his music really care how he played it? Nay....everyone eats their bowl of cereal differently, but it will still taste good no matter how they eat it. so a piano is that bowl of cereal...enjoy it while your alive and well and in good health, because one day it all goes away ;)
