Great Strides-Colleen Hunt

On May 1, 2010 I will lead a team of dedicated walkers around Spring Lake in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in an annual, nationwide event called GREAT STRIDES: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis. I am writing to ask for you support in this worthwhile event.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. There is no cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Much progress has been made toward treating and finding a cure for CF, however, the CF Foundations work is far from over, as precious young lives continue to be lost to this disease.

When I was 18 years old I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Although I generally do not talk openly about having this disease, I wanted to share my story to provide meaning as to why I am participating in the GREAT STRIDES event and why your support is so important to me.

Everyday I spend time taking care of myself with exercise and preventative treatments so I can live a long, healthy life. It is a lot of work, but I am very dedicate to staying healthy. I am lucky. Even with having this disease I am generally healthy and have a long life ahead of me. Others are not so lucky, as many people with the disease require a lung transplant at some point. The average life expectance is only 37 years old. WE NEED A CURE.
