@UrZNL RAW files can also be Fits and TIFF. You are right, Jpeg doesnt retain important data. Never use Jpeg for altering then saving again.. each time Jpeg loses quality due to compression. Instead, use 16bit Tiff or Raw, for any Photoshop adjustments then make your Jpeg from there and save it for web when you are done.
If you must alter a Jpeg, open it and go right away to the top and click 'Image/mode/16bit and it will convert to a Tiff. Make all adjustments to the Tiff and 'save as' later

@Myvellez it's made for RAW-files. Raw files can have files (i believe XML) attached to them with information about your edits... JPEG doesn't support this I think. Maybe u can open image in photoshop afterwards, save as..maybe that works.

From reading the old posts, I understand that this feature is supposed to be used with RAW files. However, in Camera Raw 3.6, my jpg file seems to be cleaned up very nicely. The problem is that when I click open, I do not get the image with the noise reduction. It seems all the other modifications are preserved, but not the noise reduction. Can you explain this? Can Camera Raw ever help out jpg files? Thank you.

This noise reduction does not work as effectively as Noise Ninja.
And for the moment NN is not supported in Photoshop CS5 Extended 64 BiT.
I have tried your method and it simply does not work in reducing serious noise.
How to Open Camera Raw
File → Browse in Bridge → Select photo, Right click on it then chose " Open in Camera raw "
