Jaques Tourneur and Val Lewton were a great team. Geniuses on their own, but together just perfect. Cat People was my personal favorite of the Lewton produced films, but this was great too. If I ever get into the film business and make a horror movie I'd make it like this. Those eyes staring at you in the dark is so much more scary than any horror movies that came out this year thus far for me. Looking forward to Halloween where all the great classics like this will be on TCM!

Anyone else think the mother had some blame in the girl's death? She was kinda witchy to her daughter and all because of the corn meal.

But it was the best part of the movie:), a great amount of suspense

who,s mother do you mean,irena,s or the hooker,or the girl from the zoo?and it,s just a movie,of course she must have had a horrible death,but there are more horrible ways to die,anyway the leopard needs food too,and again its a movie,

As beautiful as they may be, the girl died a horrible death at one because her mother was an ignorant and stubborn cow. Not the most pleasant situation.

One of the truly great horror flicks, and one that proves that the power of suggestion and black and white photography are far more scary than graphic violence and gore in living color. Many of the images from this film are indelibly imprinted in my mind. Many thanks for posting this!
