Tony Geary wins the 1999 Lead Actor Emmy

In 1999, Tony Geary won the Lead Actor Emmy, beating Bob Woods (OLTL), David Canary (AMC), Eric Braeden and Peter Bergman (Y&R). In the preceding year, 1998, Luke and Laura's son, Lucky, found out that Luke raped Laura, and Luke and Laura took their own emotional journey revisiting those events, in one of General Hospital's most powerful storylines that is still talked about today. He won by submitting scenes related to that storyline to the academy. Go Tony!!

FYI: Tony won in 1982, 1999, 2004 and 2006. :) And if you are wondering, Genie Francis has only ever been nominated in 1997, and she did not win (I have no words for that travesty).

I know! I watched Susan Lucci win, and she got like 5 minutes!  Tony only got 30 seconds to talk. It was terrible! :( But he was so charming in his 30 seconds, he didn't need 5 minutes. ;)

Tony really deserved the Emmy that year, as did Genie (who wasn't even nominated)...that s/l of Lucky finding out about the rape was some of the best acting I've ever seen on television

David Canary of AMC also has 5 Emmy's, Anthony is tied with him for that award.

FYI: Anthony Geary also won the Emmy for Best Lead Actor in 2000 too. He has 5 Emmys, which is the most for a male actor and he trails the lady on OLTL by 1 for most all time. Thanks for posting the video. I wish someone had the 2000 and 2004 video of Anthony winning.
