Hilarious. You guys had no clue what you were talking about.

Looks like he was right after all.

The Communists did the exact same thing, whether in china, vietnam, cambodia, north korea, eastern europe, you name it. It also heavily opressed the church

It's so ridiculous that General Petraeus is even up there. If only BUSH had not lost credibility among his people and the world, he would have delivered the report.
There is no way a US general will ever admit to failure, or a lost war.
Gen. Westmoreland didn't do it '60s with Vietnam and Gen. Petraeous won't do it today with Iraq. It's sad, but true.

Thanks for some clarity mate

Unfortunately, it is a common reaction. You are not the only one to 'kneejerk' on this. We have to face the fact that basically - sadly - the people who say this are right about our government (but not all of our people).
We as a nation are facing our worst times ever. It will take decades to roll back the unconstitutional "laws" passed by both the 109th and 110th Congress and undo the vast damage done not only to our nation and citizens but to our image worldwide.

Does anyone wonder WHY the wars? Bush/Cheney and company are ALL anti-constitution which makes them the 'domestic enemy' and anti-Americans. They have done more harm to this country than any foreign terrorist could ever do. All the Bush clan are bad to the bone, yet they are elected by Americans to further cut their throats!! Amazing and shocking.
See or download ZEITGEIST and get educated WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!! The truth will topple tyranny like a house of cards.

You are correct. The parallels are chilling and we should use history as our guide. I think my reaction to the Nazi comment came from by belief that too many Americas are saying, "America Sucks, and here is why..." I believe that America is amazing. We just have some cleaning up to do.

Now you're thinking, man! China does indeed own a healthy chunk of the US economy not to mention that they are the major bankroller of the Occupation in Iraq.
We are close in our shared belief that America is basically good - the People if not the "Leaders" currently in power anyway.
There is hope that we may yet see eye to eye.
You will have to admit that the parallels here are scary to say the least.
Those who remain ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it.

I'll go read it. However, whatever our intentions, I don't think we have even a slight chance of world domination. China would kick our butts. They could field an army larger than the entire population of the U.S. and they have our economy by the balls ( they have purchased billions in US Treasury bonds).
The last line. We have to redeploy? After all these facts, the answer is to redeploy? More troops, or move them around? how about redeploy them home? We need our troops home. Our national security is comprimissed. We're week at home.

sonnybrown -- Visit americanprogress dot org -- you'll see that our suggestion to "redeploy" our forces includes drawing down our forces in Iraq and bringing them home for a much deserved rest, allowing our deployed National Guard/Reserve forces to return to their civilian lives - and deploying rested forces in Afghanistan to take on a restored Al Queda and reuniting Taliban. Sorry for any confusion - we're a think tank - we sometimes speak "policy-wonk"
