John Veloso Ouano (Co-Founder of New Breed Academy). One of many ways to defend an armbar. Avoid having to grab around the neck to prevent getting submitted by reverse armbar. Grabbing the collar is a little safer.

  • There is always a counter to just about any technique. This is just one option that I teach in class and have been successfully executed by my students. Keeping the elbow tucked in and putting pressure as you come up makes it difficult for the person on the bottom. Like every submission the best defense is not to get caught.

  • only problem with this is the second you let go of your other hand they could get the armbar on right away

  • I bet this could be modified a bit for no gi, but you'd have to do it a little faster. my reaction is usually to lock up my arms, but I could definitely try swimming in and trapping the foot, then maybe try grabbing the head instead of the lapel. I've never done gi techniques.

  • One of the best techniques is don't get there, and if you do be better than the person that put you there.

  • this technique is actually quite nice, definitely try this one.

  • Nice Technique, but i was looking Non Gi.
