AFRICOM Now "490TH Civil Affairs Battalion Constructs Eco-Dome"

490th Civil Affairs Battalion Assigned To Combined Joint Task Force -- Horn Of Africa who traveled to the village of Karabti San in an ongoing project to help construct an Eco- Dome, a durable form of shelter that will provide a structure for community activities. U.S. Army Captain Justin Lev, Civil Affairs Team 4902 Team Chief: "The Idea Is That We Are Enabling The Community, The Actual Villagers, We're Enabling Them With Skills That They Can Use To Build Their Own Village. By Allowing Them To Do That, It's Going To Bring The Community Together." Mc2 Jeremy Brandt Reporting: The Project Is Significantly More Cost Effective Than A Traditional Building And Requires Little Maintenance. All The Materials Need To Build The Eco-Dome Were Donated By Non-Government Organizations. The Village Is Supplying Most Of The Work On The Eco-Dome, With The Civil Affairs Team Providing Guidance And Assistance.
