You don need to have max energy to initiate Dreadnaught. But the amount of time you're in it will obviously much less. Generally i like to fill my gauge up but in the event i'm caught in a pinch i use it even if it's just a second's worth to go for one mega strike straight through the enemy's attacks

Dreadnaught is the last level of Royal Guard style. While on the Dreadnaught, Dante is invencible (good to use on Boss fights)

I've never went till last level of royal guard... But what s the use of it? I mean, it's not even a DT. Looks good though... Yeeeah...
