  • Sounds great. Would you be willing to throw up a quick tab on what you play here? Many would appreciate it, I'm sure.

  • @modfather1965 Slide 7th to 9th fret on D string / Pluck G string at 7th / Pluck D & G at 9th fret / Pluck D / Hammer D at 7th / Pluck G at 7th / Pluck A / Hammer A at 7th / Pluck G at 6th.

Check it out. Let me know if it works. I don't use tabs. Hopes this helps.

  • Well done! One of the secrets to ahcieving Brian's tone on the recording is the use of a head/cab type of amp to get that "punch". My favorite 'Stones riff.

  • @LarryRickenbacker I am due for a better amp. I bought a solid state that approximates the sound(s), but falls short. Have to go retro with a tube amp / effects pedal :)

  • You got this wrong mate.

  • So who really wrote this song? For starters give a listen to the old Staples Singers song "This May be the Last Time". The chorus on that one is identical to that of the Stones song, with the exception of one word. So aside from that Jagger added lyrics for the verses, Keith came up with the chord progression lending to verse melody, and Brian created the distictive lead guitar riff that actually opens the song. The credits say "Jagger-Richard" but they sure had a lot of help on this one.

  • Well done mate

    .

  • @202pdiddy WE ALL KNOW WHO WROTE THE WORDS AND CHORD PROGRESSION.

  • @gyrofoam1 Someone CAN say who wrote the song. Jagger and Richards say they wrote it. No one in the know has ever disputed this, so why would you dispute it?

  • @gyrofoam1 So comparing the added arrangement sounds from No Expectations and Paint it Black insults the intelligence. Jones' guitar riff on The Last Time is what draws the attention - and makes the song - and ISN'T added later to strengthen the vocal . And still no-one can say if Jones ADDED the song-hook to the fucking song or whether Keith and Jagger gave the band a decent song idea - which Jones turned into a classic. We've heard the music and ALL READ THE FUCKING BOOKS.

  • @202pdiddy Exactly, thanks. The story behind "Satisfaction" is Keith waking up in a hotel 'with this riff in my head' - "Jumpin' Jack Flash", also a riff-based three chord song. Neither record would've happened without the Guitar-hook, as Keith pointed out about Chuck Berry. The slide in Great Expectations is just part of the arrangement and could be done by something else. The sitar in Paint it Black was a dupe of the Vocal line, have you not Noticed this?!!

  • @gyrofoam1 Keith also mentions that when he and Jagger wrote "The Last Time", it was the first time they weren't embarrassed by a song they had written for the band. Look, just because someone plays an instrumental part of a song doesn't mean he/she created it. The slide part in "No Expectations" was also written by Keith, played by Jones. Same goes for "Paint It Black". Jones had the idea of using a sitar, but he didn't create that melody.

  • @202pdiddy Well, it obviously did this time. And gave them their first real self-composed song.

  • So basically, no-one knows whether Jones came up with the riff before Keith and Jagger wrote the song. As Keith was quick to say about Chuck B.in "Hail, Hail, Rock'n'Roll; "without him having all those riffs and licks (from Johnny Johnson's piano) to work with, Voila! - No Song". Thanks, I've read the books, there's 10,000 of 'em. Guess it's another thing We'll Never Know>
