Benji doesn't want to be a sheperd and the kids explain that it is an important part of the role. As he went home and read the script for the play. He and his dog went back in time to Betheleham to see how important the role is.

This Special ran till the early 80s and just like all the good family programs of those days... sadly ,we can only hope some how they come back to us in re -runs.

@Montork Actually they do celebrate Christmas in Japan but it's mostly the secular side. I guess they were meaning that the message of Christmas is universal.

i could swear he has the voice of charly brown. a Christmas holiday has always existed, with or without Christianity. which is awesome.. because if Christianity ever dies there will still be a special day to show affection for each other, a day to feel camaraderie with your fellow man. also what the fuck is up with the Japanese thing at the start? i thought the Japanese where Shinto Buddhists.
