A short demonstration of video corruption that happens whenever I run compiz-0.8.2 with --loose-binding parameter.

Note: the red rectangles are YouTube annotations.

My system:
* Gentoo/Linux 64-bit (amd64)
* Intel Core2Duo
* Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS
* nvidia-drivers 180.29
* No KDE, no Gnome. Just Compiz with Emerald as window decorator.

With --loose-binding, I get almost 400% improvement in performance at Expo plugin (goes from 8 fps to 300 fps), and it is also noticeble faster everywhere (from 30 - 60 fps to 300 - 800 fps). However, as you can see in this video, such improvement causes a lot of graphical corruption. The screen is not updated as it should be, and it happens with any program (Firefox, Opera, qt-record-my-desktop, ...).

Running compiz without --loose-binding parameter "solves" this bug, but then compiz becomes a lot slower.

  • I'm not noticing this bug anymore.

    Running compiz with --loose-binding

    I've added this to my xorg.conf (at the nvidia driver section):

    Option "NoFlip"  "true"

    Option "TripleBuffer" "false"
