  • I think it's good.

  • Speaking as a person who has used trash bags as a rain poncho and stayed dry, I 99 cents sounds good to me.

  • Very true, cheap stuff has it's place. Use a good one to sleep with and use the cheap one for a hundred other uses.

  • there are so many uses for these..

  • What do I think?

I think that you don't always have to spend big bucks on gear. Sometimes the cheaper stuff works good too. Sometimes it doesn't. It just depends on what it is.

Of course, the more expensive stuff should last longer, that's why it cost you more. But there will always a place for more affordable versions of something.

Everyone likes saving money on things...

  • yes this it true. don't knock the cheap stuff it can be very usefull at time and won't put a dent in your pocket.

  • I've got 2 of these cheapies, and cheapie ponchos, in all of my vehicles. They are there for "emergencies" and nothing more. Better to have it, and not need it, than to need it, and not have it. I do throw a couple of wool blankets in each vehicle in the winter though. Got stuck in a freak snow storm, with a hundred other vehicles, once. And we were one of the few that didn't run out of fuel running the engine for the seven hours to stay warm. Amazing no-one died of asphyxiation in that mess!

  • Frugal is smart. I love finding ways to meet my needs on the cheap. My favorite right now is using Dunkin Coffee mylar bags as water storage. How about that one?

  • @Jesses001 I know, but i will not recommend this to use as a primary shelter

  • I agree 100%! I had to use a cheapy with a buddy of mine on a day hike when the weather changed fast on us. We were "cold & wet!" Used a Target 50¢ emergency blanket (they were half off) to reflect the heat from a fire and it worked great! It meant cutting it and duck tapping it but at that cost and weather, who cares?
