From the DVD of 'Inferno', a very enjoyable Jon Pertwee Doctor Who adventure, comes an excerpt (probably the first half) of a short promotional film by the BBC VFX Department made around 1970. It's a fascinating insight into vintage television effects work, decades before CGI and during the era when the BBC spent about fourpence on effects. It forms a nice companion to a couple of video clips which user Cardiff333UK, a true Good Samaritan of Vintage Telly, has uploaded elsewhere on youtube called 'The Model World of Robert Symes', a one hour documentary about model making split into four parts - look for the following, which examine the Beeb's visual effects work:
Part 3 (second half) http://youtu.be/6mwi2oovD0Y
Part 4 (first half) http://youtu.be/ZqCZdAPLQDQ
Incidentally, if anyone can lay their hands on the full BBC VFX Dept promo, please upload it - or persuade the Beeb to release the full thing! It's our bloody license fee money that paid for it, after all...

Cool upload. Luv this older behind the scenes stuff. And even better coming from the BBC. Most of the older american stuff I've seen already. But this is pretty cool.
