So if you know exactly what to do - why are you standing there talking about it? Why not go and do it?

With the frequency that high and the voltage regulator trying to keep the voltage down, If the generator is halfway decent it would have tripped the field breaker. saving the generator but the engine is toast running away on its own oil

@teslapower220 Shouln't have overvoltage issue as the voltage is controlled electronically. However the frequency could go out of range. Normally there should be a protection for that which "disconnect" the generator (actually it shut off the field current, effectivelly stopping the production). However with a runaway engine this is even worse: no load now!

Maybe they should put an emergency air kill on all diesel engines that is easily accesible next to the starter switch.
