TEDxConejo - Emily Zolfaghari - 03/27/10

Emily Zolfaghari is currently a senior at La Reina High School. Shes involved in numerous extra-curricular activities from volunteering at Los Robles Hospital to participating in student government. Emily is particularly interested in the debate team and the science fair, both of which she has competed and placed in at the State of California level.
She enjoys performing experimental research on ovarian cancer and will be returning back to the University of Southern California Cancer Center to conduct her third year of research. Emily plans on studying pre-medicine next year and wishes to pursue a career as an Emergency-Room Surgeon in the future.


The first-ever TEDxConejo Conference, a one-day locally organized gathering of renowned thinkers and doers produced in association with the Conejo Valley Unified School District, brought a diverse line-up of speakers to the Scherr Forum at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Center on March 27, 2010.

The conference is built on the model and under license from the TED Conference, an annual gathering of some of the worlds most fascinating and influential people. This local edition, brings together some of the leading minds in the area to share ideas, insight and discussion. The program features talks, ranging in length from 3 to 18 minutes, and conversation breaks where audience members and speakers have the opportunity to talk and exchange ideas. In addition to the internationally recognized presenters, the organizers have identified several outstanding area students who will speak or perform.

The daylong program was organized around the theme, Whats The Big Idea, and is divided into three sessions: Thinking, Doing, and Seeing. Topics covered included the neuroscience of beliefs, innovations and discoveries in medicine and healthcare, the principles of meaningful enterprise, new ideas in education, effective communication, computer science and art, microfinance, psychology, human perception and music.
