@Supdawg29: Not long after I began guitar, my curiosity was peeked by Hendrix."What's that chord in Purple Haze & Foxy Lady, same as in I'm A Man?" I asked. I knew answers like "E7 maj/minor" were wrong. Someone said "people in SU's Music School should know", so I went and asked around. They explained it's an E7 #9, showed me the standardization of symbols and I've stuck to that ever since. "Old sheet music may have a minus for minors, but don't repeat it. Use a small m, Period!" (Blame them.)

@Guitarman1146 All I'm saying is you made a very bold claim, saying that "ANY use of a minus (-) in musical notation was outlawed & universally considered indistinct & confusing (minor or diminished?) over 30 years ago," and that is blatantly wrong. I also reconize the "m" as minor, theres just several different ways of writing it. Jeez bruh, chill. There's other people besides you, and there's no accounting for their habits.

@Supdawg29: Do you mean a 'real book' printed in THIS century? One that isn't a collection of photo-copies of 'old dirt' charts? Published by a RESPONSIBLE music printing company? There wouldn't be a problem with using a (-) minus to mean a minor chord, except for 2 things; (1) Way before any uniformity was even thought about, some morons used the minus to mean one of the diminished forms. (2) How LAZY do you have to be, saving ONE iota of your energy and time, to NOT write a small 'm' instead?

@HendrixcommaMartin (& Stratmaster17): Dm7 is clear for ALL, not just old-school Jazz players. Point is some old-schoolers also used (-) minus for Diminished chords (dim) & 3/4 or 1/2 Diminished terms were changed too. (Apparently many hard-cores either didn't get the memo or they IGNORED it.) Clarity for ALL, not just Jazz dudes. > You know what THY means when you read it in an old book, but do you ever actually USE it? You don't know what I'm talking about because your head is in OLD dirt. Duh

@Guitarman1146 I don't know what you're talking about, I see (-) for minor chords all the time, and it isn't the least bit confusing. D-7 is clearly D minor 7; how can that be confused with a diminished chord, which is always a small circle or (dim). I mean, seen a real book lately? I agree that this guy is a total joke and has no business trying to teach people, but there's nothing wrong with his using (-) to indicate a minor chord.

odd you say that because, all the jazz sheets i read always use the - as way to denote that it is a minor chord

Its off tempo at some points. Please use a metronome.
