@DJSHADDY2K7 Hm, if I understand you're question correctly, you're wondering why I went back to the lettering right after reestablishing the background, right? Lettering is tricky... you have to have it correct, but without hard edges. People are visually drawn to hard edges. So, to get it dark enough, I needed to establish the lettering, then paint around it to control the edges.

@organicpaul It's oil primed Claessens linen. I had toned it some 5-6 months ago with a wash mixture of burnt sienna and ultramarine blue.
