York University Student

This video was made for a school project. The aim was to show how York is becoming (and in many ways already is) simply an arena for corporatization. As you can see, the video highlights the similarities between York and big box stores (Wal-mart is used to simbolize all big box stores). We find that York caters more to the businesses that rent their spaces, than it does to the students going to York. It's sad that university is becoming corporatized because universities have always stood as areas of free speech and forums for the masses. However, with the recent hate crimes and expulsions for free speech related offences (Dan Freeman-Maloy) we the students are forced to become opressed under the coporate rule. At least when we graduate, we can look forward to recieving a bottle of Pepsi with our diploma!

Thanks for that enlightening comment, it must have taken you forever to figure out the wording for that sentence because it's pretty complex. Although I am sure everyone enjoys thinking of you as an a-hole and an idiot, I would advise you to not write comments like that in the future; not because it's offensive to York students, but because it makes you look stupid for having a jaded and hateful attitude towards York University simply because they kicked you out for bad marks and poor grammar!

@your81 yet regardless of all these camara's for "our protection" there have been a number of laptop thefts and nothing is being done about it ...i personally know of 2 incidents (there are more in Excalibur)

york wastes our hard earned cash on meaningless renovations (like the ugly pieces of wood in vari hall) rather than ensuring that the necessities are met (if you have ever had an administrative problem you know what i mean)

@your81 And as someone else has said, the campus is by Jane and Finch. The security cameras aren't to watch you, Big Brother style, as you buy a "corporatized" taco. They're to try to ensure your safety. As for free speech, walk through Vari Hall. Plenty of students voice their opinions, regardless of whether there's a Popeye's on campus or not.

York has plenty of areas of potential improvement, agreed. But this is just ridiculous. Other than for entertainment value, disregard this video.

...The campus caters to over 50 000 students. A lot of those students live in dorm-style residences where they rely on the meal plan at York to eat. I wasn't aware it was "corporatization" to offer students as many food choices as possible. Imagine the horror of being able to get your hair cut or visit the pharmacy right on campus, instead of driving 20 minutes away.
