Chaplain Dorothy M. Barry and Irish & Judy Irish Downes were in attendance at the CUE Center Missing Persons Conference in Wilmington, NC. Thursday March 13, 2008 - Sunday March 16, 2008. Judy spoke there Saturday evening March 15th at the National Candlelight Service in memory of their grandson Christopher Michael Pierce.

In short Christopher Michael's remains were found by Bossier, La officials in December of 2007. This was more than four and 1/2 years after Christopher left his job at a fast food restaurant and was reported missing. The case was considered "cold" until Pierce's Jeep Comanche was pulled from the Red River. An arrest has been made for his murder.

CUE Brings National Conference to Wilmington
The 4th Annual National Round Table Conference for Advocates of Missing Persons

Wilmington, N.C. -- On March 13-16, the CUE Center for Missing Persons hosted its fourth annual "National Round Table Conference" in Wilmington, NC, bringing missing person's advocates and others from across nation to Wilmington to share information and ideas. The four-day event focused on improving communication among agencies, learning about each other's services, exchanging ideas, and creating a unified support system for victims.

The conference also featured professional education/training/techniques, advanced technology, advocacy, investigation and exploring other aspects of missing person cases.

In addition to providing a place where families of missing persons can find support and where searchers and professionals can network, the conference was educational and informative, presenting new technology and offering ideas to make a difference in the way missing person's cases are handled. The conference also provided resources and techniques for locating the missing.

CUE's annual National Candlelight Service and Dedication Ceremony was to take place at Riverfront Park , on March 15, 2008, Saturday at 7:00 pm. But due to weather it was moved back into the conference room at the Holiday Inn Hotel. The vigil is held in collaboration with the weekend conference events.

At the candle-light ceremony, CUE unveiled a wall dedicated to missing persons cases, and they honored three families whose missing loved ones were found deceased due to crime-related circumstances. Christopher Michael Pierce was one of the three.

  • What every family must know if they have a missing person:

The missing loved one MUST be reported missing to a law enforcement agency, and that agency MUST enter the record into NCIC (the National Crime Information Center). This must happen IMMEDIATELY. Federal law prohibits the establishment of a waiting period to report someone missing.

Fingerprints, dental records, and DNA! These are the critical minimum records that must be submitted into law enforcement's searchable databases.
