On March 25th, 2008 John Lambie, MIT trained engineering and sediment expert, gave testimony requested by the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors. This is his uncensored testimony so you can decide on the facts for yourself regarding dam removal effects on the Klamath River. As he states, the Klamath Dams have very little flood control value and sediment could be released with limited effects on fish and down river residents. The B.O.S. ignored his testimony and Marsha Armstrong, District 5 Supervisor, has been writing editorials that are in contradiction to the info given to her by the County's own expert.
There is no 100% certainty that the removal of the dams will be benefiting the fishermen or irrigation, so, keep the dams. Once they're gone, they're gone until another fifty some or so years go by to finish building more. Having dams helps keep certain towns safe from floods. How was it before the dams? Think about it. PLUS, NOTE: 79% of voters voted to keep the dams. Do not hush us, do not forget we, the people have already made up our mind. The popular vote wins--do not forget that Americans!

Build a change for the greater good--not destroy! It makes no sense this way. If later those of you fighting for the removal of the Klamath River Dams find out it was a mistake and it wasn't the best answer, and that you should have the dams back...guess what?...you're going to need to build dams again. More expenditure than needed. Remember, someone said that to him, it would be the best answer to remove the dams, but it's not certain.

I don't live in a cave...I've done my reading, and it will take 450 million dollars to remove--destroy--the dams, and only 10 million more to opt for other ways of solving the problems of fishery and all you craze for. That's 450 million to start with, what's another 10 million if half of it will be paid by water bonds? We say spend the extra 10 million dollars to build for a positive change, not 10 million dollars less to destroy something that takes so long to build and much more money too.

And potty-mouth LACHTUNGBABY-whatever that means...
The dams may look outdated because they took a long time to build, like most dams. It was from 1908-1962, so it's been a while, but everything wears. The usefulness of the dams, nonetheless is very up to date. That's how you get your electricity every day baby! That's 150 Megawatts. OK. It's not all about irrigation and fishery! There is more to it. There is a lifestyle that will be severed with the removal of any dam.

If you don't care too much about how well the Salmon will travel then, to you it shouldn't matter if the dam stays or not. But, your answer is wrong. The real answer is Don't tear the dams out because either way the salmon will swim as they may and will. And....the removal of the dams will most likely decrease the level of the River year round. No more recreational lifestyle of just being able to jump in the river and swim, float down the length of it, or just splash around in it on a hot day...

To RMLOGGER1 and anyone that talks or writes the same way he does:
saying what you said a year ago shows how ignorant you are about serious and delicate topics such as this, the keeping of dams. If you think it's okay to tear the dams out and the salmon will swim as they can, then, DON'T TEAR THE DAMS OUT AND THE SALMON WILL SWIM AS THEY CAN. You didn't know the reason for tearing down the dams is to help the fish move from the Pacific Ocean into and up the Klamath River.

What the hell is the pile of shit you have in the river down there on the Klamath. What a monolithic, stone age looking dam that is. You guys that want to keep it should be pissed at how dated the dam is. Get with the times you can have your cake and eat it too, i.e. you can irrigate and have a great fishery. Don't be afraid you can exist without the dam, we do not live in caves anymore. Use your brain and get past all the old time approaches.
