I wish we had news like this!

Great clip. Thanks for posting. This aired on Thursday, April 27, 2000.

Whatever. If you don't have control of a producer, you might as well be dumb. Because either you will be dumbed down or pushed out. That is what happened to Carol, she refused to dumb down (I believe is worse being dumb) and got pushed out.

So was this like a local late night version of CBS Evening News
-
Real TV journalism (at least in North America) still lives on CBC with "The National."
-
A news broadcast that contained news? Dogs and cats living together? The world was a crazy place.
Thanks for trying, Carol. The dullard masses just couldn't handle it.
-
Holy crap, no crime lead ins? No hot blonde anchors, no talent reads?
Something isn't right here.
-
Actually, she's not dry. Carol Marin (along with her longtime co-anchor Ron Magers) were considered the best local news team in the country for their no-nonsense "give it to them straight" style. They were JOURNALISTS first, TV personalities second.
The "bubble-headed bleach blondes" of today may read well but I bet you they have no idea what they're talking about. William Hurt in "Broadcast News" but worse!

yes she is; in fact she is the current host of the political affairs series "city desk" on wmaq tv in chicago; and on top of that she's been a columnist for the chicago sun-times.
God I miss Chicago news and Intros...I moved to Florida 2 years ago and I hate it here....I really miss Chicago and everything about it

Before you dwell too much on the set being "yuck," you should know that was -- to some extent -- by design. Marin and mgmt had the crazy idea that viewers might want a newscast that focused more on the NEWS than the CAST. The goal was to try and do what everybody CLAIMED they wanted... a no-nonsense report. The viewers spoke, and "down-and-dirty, a minute-30" was back in no time.
