  • That is absolute crap. In Minneapolis, I talked with a young guy who WAS a pilot instructor. He now works as a bank teller for $20,000 a year because that pays more than teaching pilots.

I saw a documentary about regional airlines. I remember a young woman who is $100,000 in debt and earning just under $26,000 a year. She will probably never repay her student loans.

There are jillions of pilots who can't get jobs because of pilots who leave the military.

  • @cripplehawk

Exactly, like my US Instructor told me, he'd make 4000 dollars as a flight instructor and half when applying at a regional airline. Up here in Europe it's mainly German and British carriers that still grow.

  • Hate to break it to you. But there will NEVER be a pilot shortage.

The only shortage will be in the "regional" airline sector. Many pilots that are furloughed (at around 9000 as of now) refuse to fly for $20,000 a year (who could blame them?). THe majors are shrinking and the regionals are growing at the major's expense. And most airplanes that are ordered right now are mainly for replacements. Nothing more.

In fact we have a surplus of pilots why do you think that the wages are so low?
