Okay I have a theory about this situation.

Ariiel's "sister" Shanelle Workman is 34. That is 20 years older than Ariel. I think she is her mother and the people she was living with were her grandparents so they could have control over her money.

Ariel found out the deep dark family secret and confronted her grandmother about it and her grandmother because abusive. So now she is living with her mother.
