A test video using my new Panasonic HDC-SD60 camcorder and edited on Windows Live Movie Maker (running on Vista).

I've a lot to learn! The sun was not in a favorable position--directly overhead. Optical image stabilization is far better than the digital stabilization feature on my Sanyo VPC-CG20, but shots of buildings would have benefited from a tripod: there is still some visible camera shake. And the quality of black-on-light-background captions on Live Movie Maker is cruddy: I've no idea how to get rid of the distortion.

Also, there was a real loss in quality when converting the format from MTS to WMV. (I'm using AVS Video Converter.) Some of that is to be expected, but still.... The quality of this video is poorer than the Sanyo video I uploaded previously. Should I be shooting originally at a lower setting?

The surprising star of this video is the bird whose chirping is a motif throughout. The quality of audio on this less-than-$500 camera is outstanding.

Feel free to comment and let me know how I'm doing!

  • You are right.Your video is bad compared with the footage placed on Youtube concerning the sd60/66. I am interested in this cam, but I cannot help you with converting etc. On the internet you can find anyting about editing though. Good luck!

  • @eivissa1946 Thanks! I think it has to do with conversion from MTS format to WMV, which I had to do to edit in Live Movie Maker, then of course YouTube converts WMV files to MP4. So I'll try converting directly to MP4 next time -- and find an alternative to Movie Maker (the Vista version of which doesn't work with MP4 for some reason).

  • @langohio You could use "Handbrake" to convert to MP4 and than directly upload to youtube. I would not do WMV. Succes!
