  • "Popov really should qualify as a Russian Master," according to musicologist James McHard. I have not heard enough to judge yet. Based on this, I believe his work merits a great deal more attention.  They say his first symphony so challenged standard norms that it was "dangerous to listen to." Afterwards, he grew a bit more conservative, but never unoriginal, according to McHard. I'm going to check and see if the 1st symphony is online. Thanks for posting this.
