World Record holder Wang Junxia wins the 1993 WC in hostile conditions in Stuttgart. After a slow, tactical opening half, Junxia pulled away from the competition with almost embarressing ease, upping the tempo lap after lap. The final kilometre was covered in a stunning 2:43.3 with a 61 second final lap confirming her dominance. Veteran Zhong Huandi adds a second silver to her collection as a 15 (!) year old Sally Barsosio takes bronze and Tegla Loroupe finsihes 4th.
