At Ellis Island, Mottel's brief interview with the Officers is complete and he is cleared for entry into the port of New York. But he and his family and friends must wait another day: the sun is setting and Yom Kippur is about to begin -- travel is prohibited. The celebration of the holiday is bittersweet: the new arrivals to America join with those who failed the medical exams and will, sadly, be sent back to Europe. Adapted for the stage by Thomas W. Olson and Judith Luck Sher. Directed by Jon Cranney. Music Composed and Directed by Alan Shorter. Commissioned and first presented by The Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis, MN, 1986. Featuring George Muschamp and Leslye Orr as Immigration Officers. To read the script, please go to PlaysForAllAges.art.officelive.com
