I have used many Panasonic HD video cams Pro and Non Pro and many other like Canon/Sony/JVC. From experience this camera is the best non-pro sized video quality you will get (next to the Panasonic SD1 which uses 3CCD as opposed to 3CMOS). Sony, Canon, are great but they don't do 3CCD/3CMOS in small sizes. JVC does but I liked Panasonic's color better. Furthermore, speaking of pure image quality HDC-TM300 is not far off from the HVX200 (minus all the cinema controls). Hope this helps.

I got mine almost new from amazon about 600 bucks, came out really good! comes to meet my expectations. just keep looking around, you should be able to snag it in a fairly good condition for a reasonable price, considering this is a semi-pro camcorder
