Here is the original ending that richard donner had ilmed in the fall of 1986. but suddenly in a change of heart he decided not to put this into a movie. Because he felt that he could make sequels to this film. donner went on to make three sequels. but here is the alternative and original ending to lethal weapon 1987.

  • Glad they cut it as this would be a very crappy and unsatisfying ending to such a great film. I agree with the previous post though.

  • with this ending 2,3 and 4 wouldnt have happened. good that they changed it

  • I don't see how this would prevent a sequal. Unless his car blew up or one of them died then I could understand but its a peaceful ending which leaves you thinking its the end. It doesn't prevent a sequal which would come as a suprise to anyone who liked the film.

  • I'm glad this wasn't in the movie.

  • you know if you think about it this could continue into the ending we see in the movie but it may seem tedious

  • donner didnt even think about doing a sequal. but he changed this ending bc he felt with everything they went threw having them separting them at the end was wrong, so he changed it to the ending so it establishes them as friends forever

  • That is a true statement, this film was released in March of 1987. After it's release and after it became hugely successful, Shane Black immediately that same year began a script for LW2. Black originally had no intention on making a sequel but was offered $125,000 to write a script for a sequel, so he did. Only Jeffrey Boam basically got the credit for the screenplay because the original script for the second film written in 87 involved Riggs dying at the very end of the second film.

  • Rick Donner said the original intention was to do just this one movie, but once it became popular, a sequel was commissioned right away.

  • ???

  • cool
