Yes, the Mael Bros. wrote it and it first appeared on Sparks' Kimono My House album. The Grateful Dead reference was a little joke to reply to the many criticisms of my vocals on this version. Because if you've ever heard the Dead, you'll know that the vocals were...oh, never mind. I'm not going to open *that* can of worms.
