Foundress of the Benedictine communities in North America, Mother Benedicta Riepp came from Saint Walburg Abbey in Eichstätt, Bavaria, with five other sisters. They came to teach children of European settlers and to live a monastic life on the frontier. Mother Benedicta's hard work and determination helped the Sisters survive their difficult founding years, and her legacy lives on in 11 daughter monasteries founded since her death.
